The Rejuvenation of Nintendo

For years, industry analysts suspected if Nintendo would be driven out of game console business by Sony and Microsoft. Today nobody will think so anymore. Wii(internal project name: revolution), Nintendo's latest game console with full of innovation and imagination, has completely change the rule of game: forget about being the most powerful and fastest machine but how about focusing on being the easiest to use with a significant differentiating feature - motion sensors, as VCist Ed Sim says in his blog. That's exactly what's called user experience in age of web2.0.

James Surowiecki further summarizes in In Praise of Third Place for a recent New Yorker issue: The key is to play to your strengths while recognizing your limitations. Nintendo knew that it could not compete with Microsoft and Sony in the quest to build the ultimate home-entertainment device. So it decided, with the Wii, to play a different game entirely. A good lesson to learn for nth runners.
