2017.06.19 #透析 《The Catcher in the Rye》——孤独、善良

The Catcher in the Rye

作者:J. D. Salinger

另有35个好用的表达方法(have the guts to do、I haven't the faintest idea等)

1、"If you was a fish, Mother  Nature'd take care of you, wouldn't she? Right? You don't think them fish just die when it  gets to be winter, do ya?"

2、I love it when a kid's nice and polite when you tighten their skate for them or  something. Most kids are. They really are.

3、"Well, I hate it. Boy, do I hate it," I said. "But it isn't just that. It's everything. I  hate living in New York and all. Taxicabs, and Madison Avenue buses, with the drivers  and all always yelling at you to get out at the rear door, and being introduced to phony  guys that call the Lunts angels, and going up and down in elevators when you just want to  go outside, and guys fitting your pants all the time at Brooks, and people always--"

4、You take somebody that cries their goddam eyes out  over phony stuff in the movies, and nine times out of ten they're mean bastards at heart.

5、 All you do is make a lot of dough and play  golf and play bridge and buy cars and drink Martinis and look like a hot-shot. And  besides. Even if you did go around saving guys' lives and all, how would you know if you  did it because you really wanted to save guys' lives, or because you did it because what  you really wanted to do was be a terrific lawyer, with everybody slapping you on the  back and congratulating you in court when the goddam trial was over, the reporters and  everybody, the way it is in the dirty movies? How would you know you weren't being a  phony? The trouble is, you wouldn't.

6、"I thought it was 'If a body catch a body,'" I said. "Anyway, I keep picturing all  these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little  kids, and nobody's around--nobody big, I mean--except me. And I'm standing on the edge  of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over  the cliff--I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come  out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I'd do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the  rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be. I know it's  crazy."

7、Then, all of a sudden, I started to cry. I couldn't help it. I did it so nobody could  hear me, but I did it.

8、The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly  for a cause, while the mark of the mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one.

"I thought it was 'If a body catch a body,'" I said.
