Why I am good at learning

What class or learning experience was my favourite and why?

My favourite learning experience is the coding bootcamp. I had this determination to learn basic skills of programming in 2 months and find a job at the end of it. Everyday I experienced the pressure from myself and my peers. I went to bed thinking about the course, woke up thinking about my code. I was racing with my peers to complete assignments, to learn the most from them. The peer environment also helped me overcome the fear that I often had when learning programming on my own: what if I am too stupid to get it. At the bootcamp I saw people from all kinds of background get their nose down in coding. No one ever mentioned the phrase “give up”. That prompted me to think that I was no less than anyone and I could understand and assimilate everything as well. What I am proud most is my final project, which my partner and I worked harder than anyone else in the cohort and experienced the extreme excitement of planning out our own app and fast learning on our own. I ended the bootcamp with a strong bang: I was the first one to get an internship in the class and our final project was voted as the NO.2 most popular app.

Speak about about a time I was a leader and helped coach someone/my team to success.

I was an sales supervisor in a marketing company and headed a 14-people team. My strategy was to divide the team into 7 pairs and put them on different venues to maximize the results. I mixed seasoned and unexperienced sales together and taught sales pitch. My experience with each venue was passed down as well so they could customize their strategies. When a day started, I set hourly target for each team and rewarded teams that could meet the target and went to coach and help the sales of the failing teams. My entire team usually had top one sales performance in the region.

What is my favourite tech product or app at the moment? Why?

Uber is my favourite app at the moment. In my view, it brings customers a sleek riding experience with supreme algorithm at play. I also think highly of the fact that they have cultivated great culture among their drivers. I often take uber in downtown Toronto and without exception every time I encounter a driver with the most politeness and kindness to offer extra help. It all depends on the rewards regime and customer feedback loops so that Uber could develop large base of drivers with great customer service. I dived into a book, titled The Upstars, of deep analysis of Uber’s success where I wanted to learn tech product development cycle and factors driving them successful.
