At present, it’s become a commonplace to see people moving from one place to another; however, this was not the case in the old days. There are a variety of reasons behind this. From my perspective, it is a positive development nevertheless.

When it comes to the reasons why individuals move, there are push factors and pull factors. Push factors are those causes that encourage a person to leave a place, such as fewer job opportunities, worse educational chances, serious ecological and environmental problems and so forth. To be specific, someone may move several times for different reasons, including getting a promising job, going to university or living in a better environment. Whereas push factors drive migrants out of their places of origin, pull factors are responsible for dictating where they eventually end up.

In general, economic incentives provide both the biggest push and pull factors for potential migrants, who are drawn to those towns, cities, or even countries where they can maximize benefits. For example, a worker moving to a more developed country will often find that the same job he did at his hometown is rewarded with higher wages in the new place. Besides, other pull factors consist of superior medical care or education, family ties or simply a personal fondness of a certain place, whether it may be linked to culture, language, weather conditions or other influencing factors.

Regardless of whatever factors, migration has positive wide-reaching social significance for sending countries and receiving countries where people leave and stay. For one thing, migrants not only take on necessary jobs seen as less desirable by the established residents of host countries but also stimulate demand and improve local economic performance overall. For another, immigrants help to shore up pension systems in those countries with ageing populations.

All in all, some have voluntarily moved in search of better opportunities, while others have been forced to emigrate from their homes. In spite of respective reasons, people benefit tremendously from migrating.
