The Economist Intelligence Unit (The EIU) is looking for a Business Development Manager in Beijing.


The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) is the global standard in providing strategic information to business leaders in understanding the issues of doing business in over two hundred countries. EIU’s expertise in country analysis, macroeconomic principles and forecasting methodologies has provided decision makers with critical information since 1946.

As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps leaders prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries.

The role of the Business Development Manager is to sell subscription programs encompassing risk, market entry and geo-political analysis to Financial Institutions, Corporations, Governments and Non-profits in the Chinese market.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished business development executive with excellent presentations skills, keen client insight and strong consultative sales skills.

The candidate will be expected to exceed personal revenue targets while helping the larger business development team achieve overall goals.

Accountabilities


In the role you would be expected to:


  • Work with Global Director of Business Developmentand other stakeholders to develop and implement a business development strategy in continental China

  • Create qualified opportunity pipeline through relationship building, matching client needs with EIU capabilities, and identifying project funding sources

  • Identify and present to potential new accounts within assigned territory

  • Work closely with Research and consulting teams to ensure high-quality proposal and project implementation that exceeds promised deliverables

  • Work closely with editorial analyst team to engage sales opportunities with a strategic and consultative approach

  • Prepare regular sales reports, noting calls made per month, sales invoiced, pipeline, monthly, quarterly, and end year forecasts

  • Keep up to date with the EIU portfolio and the competitive marketplace


Experience, skills and professional attributes


To succeed in the role you must have:


  • A minimum of 2 years experiencein a business development role in the research industry

  • Demonstrable experience of leading and developing new business in China

  • A proven track record ofselling strategic research programs or information and intelligence solutions to C-Level executives

  • Understanding of business trends, global affairs and macroeconomic principals

  • A proven track record in new business development and experience closing complex six figure deals

  • The confidence to approach people at all levels of seniority

  • An ability to thrive upon expectation and exposure

  • Fluency in both English and Mandarin


You will be able to demonstrate:


  • Excellent technical and software skills (ie Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Salesforce, etc)

  • Attention to detail and an enthusiasm for new ideas and challenges

  • A willingness to travel and ability to organize trips effectively

  • The ability to influence and communicate with colleagues in other offices, both nationally and globally

  • Excellent relationship building and communication skills along with strong written and verbal skills

  • Ideal candidate should be a strategic thinker, persistent cold caller and goal-driven
