At present, an increasing number of parents permit their kids to pour time and energy into electronic products such as computers, smart phones and tablets because they assume kids have to study technological skills. My perception is that the cons far outweigh the pros.

Admittedly, it’s not a secret for caring parents that nowadays children have nearly unlimited access to computers or mobile phones. There’s no doubt that digital devices are plugging children into experiences that actually fuel their creativity and facilitate them to learn skills on advanced technology. Nevertheless, contrary to what parents expect, too many children use these devices not for learning skills, but for playing games. Consequently, disadvantages far outweigh advantages.

To begin with, pupils who spend a significant amount of time playing violent video games are more likely to fight with their peers, argue with their teachers and generally engage in more aggressive behaviors. In some cases, some even become so addicted to video games that they can become isolated and depressed. Furthermore, sedentary children with too much screen time may experience various health risks. For example, they are prone toward obesity. As children spend more time in front of computer monitors, smart phones, and tablets, they typically spend less time in physical activities.

In addition, students who are over dependent on electronic products often struggle to concentrate and control themselves in the classroom. What’s worse, while facing challenging tasks and essays at school, students with easy access to the Internet may plagiarize from Internet sources. In a word, students may not make every endeavour on their projects because they take it for granted to copy the information they need from the Internet to finish their assignments.

In conclusion, despite parents’ well-intentioned expectations, the negative effects of children's constant electronic exposure have actually exceeded the positive ones.
