Part 1  New Words

1.on the lookout for 

原文：Rich merchants at the capital with unmarried daughters were on the lookout for the announcement of the results of the examinations.

释义：在本文是“留意”的意思，也有“看守，警戒”的意思；

造句：Police were patrolling the train station on the lookout for trouble .

2.on the very good terms with 

原文：Eventually ,overcome by his enthusiasm, Chang was persuaded to write a letter for introduction to Ouyang Shiu, the first writer of the land, although he was not on very good terms with him.

释义：have a good friendship with 

造句：I am on very good terms with her .

3.leakage

原文：He sent out the subjects for the papers by his own personal servants, and sometimes, to avoid leakage, changed them at the last moment.

释义：n. 泄露，漏出

造句： The oil leakage caused damage to the environment.

4.sage

原文：The dialogue read very well , and it seemed to support an authentic story that the sage emperor was willing to use a bad man and give him a chance to prove his talent.

释义：可以做形容词，贤明的； 也可以做名词，圣人

造句：Two sages are discussing philosophical questions about life and death.

Part 2 Thoughts

Through hard study , both Su Tungpo and his young brother finally passed the examination. Ouyang Shiu, the first writer of the land , spoke highly of Tungpo and made a prediction "Thirty years from now nobody will talk about me." 

Just as he was about to begin his official career , his mother died . They need to come back home . After the mourning period they set out for the capital again .

In this chapter Lin also introduced some Chinese traditional custom, like catch marriage , mourning . He also wrote about the four capitals in Sung Dynasty and examination system .
