过去完成时

He had no sooner returned than he bought a house and went to live there.(no sooner ... than..表示“一 ... 就....”引导时间状语从句，主句里常用过去完成时，than后面用一般过去时。)

for even though itwas still summer,it rained continually and it was often bitterly cold.（even  though 即使，even甚至，ever曾经）

After so many years of sunshine,Harrison got a shock.（After 在....之后，shock 震惊）

He acted as if he had never lived in England.（as if 好像）

He had hardly had time to settle down when he sold the house and left the country.（第一个had 是过去完成时的助动词，第二个had表示有，是done的形式）

Harrison had thought of everything except the weather.（except 除...之外）
