Lesson 32 Shopping made easy 购物变得很方便

People are not so honest as they once were. The temptation to steal is greater than ever before -- especially in large shops. A detective recently watched a well-dressed woman who always went into a large store on Monday mornings. One Monday, there were fewer people in the shop than usual when the woman came in, so it was easier for the detective to watch her. The woman first bought a few small articles. After a little time, she chose one of the most expensive dresses in the shop and handed it to an assistant who wrapped it up for her as quickly as possible. Then the woman simply took the parcel and walked out of the shop without paying. When she was arrested, the detective found out that the shop-assistant was her daughter. The girl 'gave' her mother a free dress once a week !

Since my daughter has been working in a large supermarket, I "bought" a free dress from there once a week. I always went to the store on Monday mornings when my daughter was on duty. One Monday, I went into the shop and I felt glad for there were fewer people in the shop than usual. At first, I bought a few 'unvaluable'[=> valueless] articles as my daughter taught me. A short time later, I chose one of the most expensive dresses in the shop and handed it to my daughter. My daughter wrapped it as quickly as possible. Then I took the parcel and simply walked out of the shop without paying. This time, several members of shop workers arrested me as soon as I had walk outside.

Last month, I received a request from Walmark, a large supermarket, to find out a thief. Nowadays, it is easier for people to steal something from a large shop than ever before and the manager told me that one of the most expensive dresses would be stolen once a week. After five weeks of observation, I was focusing on a well-dressed woman who always went into the shop on Monday mornings. This week, I was watching her in a safe and observable distance since she came. There was fewer people in the shop than usual so I managed to keep her in watch. She bought a few articles and 'checked out'[=> paid the bill]. Then she walked back into the shop and chosed a very expensive dress and handed it to an assistant. The assistant wrapped it as quickly as possible. Then she took the parcel and walked out of the shop without any paying. The assistant was the planted agent! We found out that she is the assistant's mother after they were both arrested.
