The third time when she was given to choose between the hard and the easy, and she chose the easy.

The fourth time when she committed a wrong, and comforted herself that others also commit wrong.

The fifth time when she forbode for weakness, and attributed her patience to strength.

The sixth time when she despised the ugliness of a face, and knew not that it was one of her own masks.

我曾经七次鄙夷自己的灵魂
第一次，当它本可进取时，却故作谦卑；
第二次，当它在空虚时，用爱欲来填充；
第三次，在困难和容易之间，它选择了容易
第四次，它犯了错，却借由别人也会犯错来宽慰自己；
第五次，它自由软弱，却把它认为是生命的坚韧；
第六次，当它鄙夷一张丑恶的嘴脸时，却不知那正是自己面具中的一副；
第七次，它侧身于生活的污泥中，虽不甘心，却又畏首畏尾。

看了《西西里的美丽传说》这部电影再来解读这句诗，有了更深刻的理解，这部电影给我们展示了很多人性的弱点，虚伪，懦弱，嫉妒, 丑恶...

当它在空虚时，用爱欲来填充自己，影片中小男孩按捺不住青春的悸动，被性欲充斥着头脑，甚至得了性幻想，当他去鄙夷，报复其他中伤玛莲娜的人时，殊不知自己正是他们中的一员。当他看到了事情的真相的时候，他却无力站出来帮助玛莲娜, 一直畏首畏尾。

最后，当玛莲娜和她丈夫重新回到西西里小镇上时，穿着不在时髦，身材略微走样，变得更周围人一样，西西里的女人们对待这个已经变得跟她们一样的女人从妒忌刻薄到宽容。人们总是喜欢欺凌身边异样的弱势个体，从而获得宣泄和团结，人性在扭曲的价值观中变得丑恶
