6. Percy Buttons

Text:

I have just moved to a house in Bridge Street. Yesterday a beggar knocked at my door. He asked me for a meal and a glass of beer. In return for this, he stood on his head and sang songs. I gave him a meal. He ate the meal and drank the beer. Then he put a piece of cheese in his pocket and went away. Later a neighbour told me about him. Everybody knows him. His name is Percy Buttons.

I am Percy Buttons. I was brought up in Bridge Street. I have been out of work for five years. I have to call at every house in the street once a month to ask for a meal as I don't have other sources of income. Yesterday I visited Mr. Huang, who came here a month ago. I stood on my head and sang songs to welcome her to this street. She seemed very happy. In return for this, she gave me a meal and a glass of beer. It's so kind of her to provide me with so much food that I could hardly finish them! In the end, I put a piece of in my pocket and thanked again Mr. huang for her kindness.

a, the, some的使用。

2,开始接触短语概念,文中有些短语很实用,尤其课后练习提到的knock相关的短语动词:knock off, knock out, knock at, knock over.

Later a neighbour told the writer that the beggar's name is Percy Buttons and he calls at every house in the street once a month to ask for a meal and a glass of beer." Later a neighbour told the writer that the beggar's name is Percy Buttons, who calls at every house in the street once a month to ask for a meal and a glass of beer." 然后转而考虑"...is Percy Buttons and (that) he calls at every house..."
