15 minutes out of New Zealand's capital, the Ostrich House is a sustainable-living city-country house. Backed to a hill for winter wind protection, the house is angle-shaped openning to the hillside couryard. Its designer Parsonson Architects followed passive solar principles, used low-maintenance materials, and provided rainwater collection and septic systems. The house is positioned for optimal passive solar gain in winter while equipped with sunscreens and eaves to reduce summer heat gain, at the same time the low-E windows and the heat recovery ventilation system help regulate the room temperature.

离新西兰首都15分钟的 Ostrich House 是一个可持续居住方式的城市／田园房。利用背靠的山坡来阻挡冬天的寒风，这个房子成一个钩型，面相山坡打开一个庭院。设计公司 Parsonson Architects 采用了被动太阳能原则，使用了低维修材料，还安置了雨水处理和有机垃圾处理系统。房子的朝向是为了最优化冬季被动太阳能采集，而防晒板和屋檐可以降低夏季热量吸收，同时low-E窗户和蓄热循环系统会帮助控制室温。
