USA Visa Interview

Around the end of May or the beginning of June, my BU has a NPI workshop meeting in Novi Michigan USA this year. All team members are invited to join the meeting. I haven't been to America yet, so need to apply for USA visa. My company has a corporated travel agency. They helped submit all documents to America embassy website and appointed a visa interview for me.

Today, March 5, is the visa interview date. The process isn't complicated at all. But there are some interesting and strict rules, like battery powered devices are not allowed to bring in into consulate, for example cellphone, watch, laptop etc. Also bag, luggage, food, are forbidden. Only required documents are permitted to bring in. From my prospective, flammable, explosive and threatening stuff are reasonable forbidden items, but things like water, umbrella, bag shouldn't be a problem.

The rule helps generate a new job, luggage keeper. There are many elderly women outside the consulate building. And they all are very kind, with warm smile on their face. Late we found out that they all here to work, and the work is to keep luggage for interviewees. 50 RMB for luggage with laptop and 30 RMB without laptop. What a high-profit job! I really envy them.

The first pass is checking if you get the interview notification letter. The second is checking three documents, website visa application confirmation page & applicant details with paid barcode & passport. The third is security check. Interviewees are required to take off the coat to pass through security inspection machine. Man even needs to untie the belt. The forth is pasting a QR code on the back of passport. The fifth should be confirming information's correction in compter. Cause the lady only asked me to provide her my passport, then checking in the computer, then forwarded back me my passport, without asking any questions. After that I was led to record my fingerprint for all fingers. And the final pass is interview.

The interviewer who interviewed me is a funny person I think. He checked my data and asked if I'm going to America for a short trip. I told him it will be a business trip. Then he asked if my company has an office in America. After that was a question of education backgroud. When I told him that I graduated from university, he started talking English with me. There were two questions are interesting and wired. The first is sell him our products when I told him that my company develops audio products like headphones, speakers, woofers, amplifiers etc. The second is do I think the economy between America and China will be better this year. Haha, is he worrying about the Sion-US trade war? (I felt like these two questions are testing my language level. Cause I didn't present a very clear answer to him).  Besides that comes questions like the purpose of the trip and how long will I stay in America.

The good thing is I pass the interview and get the visa. Now looking forward to visit America soon.
