Do you want to marry me?
Yes, I do.
Do you want to listen the love story of me?
Well, single dog has no love story to share with you at this time, but I have two interesting stories about” Yes, I do” and I am going to share with you.
In September 2016, I become a member of our club. After one regular meeting, Tina came to me and said: Hi, Elena, do you want to be the assistant of the me, I am an officer of our club, VPPR, Vice President of Public Relationship. I was confused at that time, assistant? officer? What are these things? I was busy these days and I had an internship job in Accenture, so I was hesitated and didn’t want to learn new things. Then I told Tina that I would think about it.
In the next meeting, Tina came to me again: Hi, Elena, do you want to be the assistant of me? It’s hard for me to refuse Tina’s request again. Maybe I could have a try, I said to myself. So I said: ok, yes, I do to Tina and I became the assistant of Tina.
Then In December 2016, Carol( our ex-VPM, Vice President of Member(会员副主席), she is in Xian now) she asked me: Elena, do you want to be the VPM of our club? I said: VPM, wow, it’s really a big challenge! I am afraid that I couldn’t handle it. You know my English is poor and I am still a new member. She said, you don’t have to be excellent in English. VPM is not just about your English speaking level it is about communicate with guests and help them join in our club.
I didn’t think it before, Can I do it? So I asked my mentor Harry for advice. He said that if my time and energy is ok, it’s really a good chance for you to grow. I think over their words. Being a VPM is really a challenge for me but I want to have a try. So I said: Yes, I do to Carol and became a VPM of our club.
It was hard for me to say yes, I do to Tina and Carol at first, because I had to learn new things and take more responsibilities. They were challenges for me, I have to get out of my comfortable zone and get into new zone that I am not familiar with. Those things are common in our life, not just in our club. You must have meet various challenges in your life. your friends may say, do you want to take part in a contest; your teacher may say, do you want to join in this research; your boss said, do you want to be the leader of this project; or other things, do you want to ……
When we confront with those situation, we may hesitate, and think about whether we should we say yes, I do or no, I don’t.
I said, yes, I do to Tina. Then I learned how to use Xiumi and learn how to make Wechat push. It took me several hours to learn it, but It is not as difficult as I thought. Every week I made preview or review of our meeting to propaganda our club. I found that more and more people read our articles and they said you did a great job. And I found that I was good at making Wechat push and I learned how to make poster. I said Yes, I do to Tina and master the skills about social media.
I said yes, I do to Carol, to be an officer of our club. During every meeting, I came early and communicated with guests, introduce our meeting and club to them. Let more people know our club and help them to become competent communicator. In March, we had 6 new members, in April, we had 4 new members and in May, we had 1 new member. I found that it’s easy for me to communicate with strangers and I am more open minded and active now.
When we faced with challenges, be brave and say yes, I do. It is not as difficult as you thought. To learn new things or to take more responsibility is not easy at first, because we have to get our comfortable zone and get into another new zone. We may doubt that whether I can do this? But when you say yes, I do. You will found that it is not as difficult as you thought. You can handle it and do well!
Next time,
when your friends say, do you want to take part in a contest, Say, yes, I do.
When your teacher say, do you want to join in this research, Say, yes, I do.
When your boss say, do you want to be the leader of this project, Say, yes, I do.
When your club needs you to be assistant and officer, Say, yes, I do.
All in all, embrace the challenges and say yes, I do.
