Dialogue 对话
A. So, Kevin, can you talk to us a little bit more about Nadella’s background?
B. Satya Nadella is an inside man; he’s a 22-year veteran at Microsoft. He’s led
the Cloud and Enterprise group at Microsoft. He has sufficient experience
working with the company.
A. He’s an insider, what do you think of that? Do you think an outsider would've
been a more suitable pick?
B. It’s hard to say now, but a lot of analysts are skeptical that he’ll be willing to
make tough decisions. An outsider would have a fresh perspective on things
and be more willing to cut out products that aren’t working.
A. Do you think he’s an appropriate choice? And why do you think he was
selected?
B. Nadella is definitely a safe choice. Microsoft really needs to keep up with the
times if they want to stay relevant. Nadella has been described as having strong
business acumen, as well as being more inclined to adopt fresh and
groundbreaking ideas. He tends to think outside of the box and that’s exactly
what the company needs.
A. What about Nadella’s predecessor and Bill Gates?
B. Steve Ballmer has stepped down from his long time role as CEO, but he’ll still
be on the board of advisors. And along with that Gates has also stepped down
as chairman of the board to founder and technology advisor; he’ll still be
involved in day-to-day activities with the company.
A. What will Nadella do differently from Ballmer?
B. Nadella wants to completely reinvent the company. He wants a big change
in the culture of the company. He believes that everyone needs to acknowledge
innovation and foster its growth. He’s mentioned that Ballmer's main concerns
were about the money. But Nadella wants to shift that focus from money over
to innovation.
A. Do you think Ballmer's obsession with money probably had some
detrimental effects on Microsoft?
B. Indeed. Concentrating on money creates short-term solutions for the
company. On the other hand, focusing on innovation may not bring in revenue
right away, but it’ll definitely determine the longevity of the company and bring
in some money later.
A. Thanks for your input, Kevin!
Kevin!
