Make a good something
In this lesson, Karen mentioned that Nathan "would make a good emcee," which means that she thinks he would be a great host for the party. "Make" in this situation means "be" or "become".
Nathan"would make a good emcee"。
Most of the time, we use this phrase to express what we think someone or something could be, because we haven't seen them as an actual emcee or mother or president, so "will" and "would" are most often used with this phrase.

Year-end parties in American companies
Most year-end parties in America are called "holiday parties" since they're usually held around Christmas. Many companies choose to hold a catered lunch or potluck on company premises during a workday so that attendance will be higher, the budget lower, and employees won't have to make other arrangements if they have kids. Sometimes, particularly for smaller companies, the boss will hold the event at their own house.
People usually dress up nicely, especially for the fancier dinner parties. Employees often get to bring a guest, and about 50% of companies will provide a full bar. Since hiring babysitters is not exactly affordable, some employees might skip out to take care of the kids, so a number of companies also include on-site child care at the event. The more extravagant parties might also feature a DJ with live music, door prizes, or party favors to take home.
There's often a white elephant gift exchange held as well. Participants bring wrapped presents, which are piled together. They determine the order in which people go, and the first person picks a present to open. The second person and on has the choice to either open another present or "steal" someone else's gift. If your gift is stolen, you have the choice to take someone else's gift or open a new one.
However, more and more companies are opting to skip the holiday party altogether for a number of reasons. Some have received enough complaints of rowdy and drunk coworkers or find the money to be a waste when attendance is low, and it is often low because employees feel forced to socialize with people they might not want to hang out with after work. As the holiday season is a time for family, some employees will prefer spending time at home with loved ones.
