PART 1: Thoughts
The reason that most people don’t possess these extraordinary physical capabilities isn’t because they don’t have the capacity for them, but rather because they’re satisfied to live in the comfortable rut of homeostasis and never do the work that is required to get out of it. They live in the world of“good enough.”
“Good enough” is generally good enough. But it’s important to remember that the option exists. If you wish to become significantly better at something, you can.
PART 2: Summary
The author cites a few instances to illustrate that deliberate practice is useful and helpful. It's our ultimate goal. Purposeful practice can push us to achieve more and get better. It is more effective than the usual just-enough method-and it is a step toward deliberate practice. The researchers exemplified that the human brain is incredibly adaptable as the human body. It desires for homeostasis and can be reestablished. We need to keep pushing ourselves to get out of one's comfort zone. With deliberate practice, this requires challenging homeostasis. Once we do this, learning becomes a way of taking control of our destiny and shaping our potential in ways that we choose.
修正后
From the introduction and the chapter 1 we know deliberate practice is the gold standard. Afterwards, the author compares "naive practice" with "purposeful practice" to show what is purposeful practice. The characteristics are: specific goals, focused, feedback, get out of one's comfort zone. We can get correct feedback by working with a teacher or coach. Get out of one's comfort zone is to constantly challenge ourselves. But it is not "try harder" but rather "try differently". In a nutshell, Purposeful practice is a hard work, but it can push you to achieve more and get better.
However, we should know purposeful practice isn't always so successful, as we shall see, but it is more effective than the usual just-enough method-and it is a step toward deliberate practice, which is our ultimate goal.
Then, the author illustrates that the human brain is incredibly adaptable as the human body. The researchers exemplify that the body desires for homeostasis can be harnessed to drive changes. It can be reestablished. We need to keep pushing ourselves, otherwise our ability will stop improving or even disappear. But if we push too far outside our comfort zone, we risk injuring ourselves and actually setting ourselves back. People don't possess these extraordinary physical capabilities because they choose to live in the world of "good enough". It's the traditional approach. With deliberate practice, this requires challenging homeostasis. Once we do this, learning becomes a way of taking control of our destiny and shaping our potential in ways that we choose.
