这章winston漫步街头，然后他来到贫民聚集地，看到有人在谈论博彩，看到了life of commons ,bomb,以及lottery men .在酒馆他还发现了一位老人，想要通过他来了解过去的历史，并没有的得到想要的信息。A sense of helplessness took hold of Winston .The old man’s memory was nothing but a rubbish-heap of details…..they were like the ant ,which can see small objects but not large ones . 又在杂货铺里，和店主的交谈中，发现了不少历史的旧物件，勾起了怀旧情绪。比如coral.old furniture .picture .

从杂货店出来，顿时惊出一身冷汗，竟然碰到那个黑发女孩，他确定他自己被跟踪了.Suddenly his heart seemed to turn to ice and his bowels to water. 可以说是moment of crisis ,虽然他曾想杀人灭口，但是也觉得这1方案不太可靠，又想起来思想警察，以及bigbrother。渴望明亮自由，有心头满是恐怕,他该何去何从？
