Book Two Unit Eighty-nine

People will do anything to see a free show—even if it is a bad one. After having been
told that a free show would be presented at our local cinema by the P. and U. Bird
Seed Company, we hastened to see it. As there were several hundred people present
just before the show began, the audience were lined up to get in. However, the show
was not as interesting as we had thought it to be. Those who failed to get in need not
have felt disappointed, as many of the artistes who ought to have appeared did not
come. We were amused only when the advertiser showed up at the beginning of the
programe. It was obvious that he was very nervous and for some minutes stood
awkwardly before the microphone. We could not stop laughing when he fluffed his lines. He said:"This is the Poo and Ee Seed Bird Comany. Good ladies, evening and
gentlemen"
