Mama's Bank Account

Along my new year trip, I finished a lovely novel, Mama's Bank Account. It is effortless to read, because the words and the stories are simple. There is no drama, no great men, but the positive spirit reflected by the ordinary dialogues kept my eyes from off it.

Undoubtedly, the most impressive character is the writer's mom. There were two scenes moved me deeply. One is the first story of the book. Mama managed to keep the family running during hard time by imposing a fake bank account which never exist. Only the parent knew that they did not have more money in the bank account, but they did so to give their children a sense of security. They did not only give lots of love, but also a positive spirit to live a life. The positive does not mean being satisfied with all the things and do nothing to deal with difficult situations. It leads to figure out the solutions and overcome the problems which seem unbeatable. We were taught to love life and control ourselves. We were taught to live a life full of love with limited resources. The other unforgivable story was that Mama showed up with hot coffee when all the teachers and school girls were stuck in a cold and starving situation. Even the writer's family were not rich and had been looked down by her peers, her mother's elegance, confidence and kindness won over their respect.

From the day on, I am dedicated to live a frugal life. Frugality is not only a virtue, it is also a symbol of capability. Perform the best with the minimum cost. What's more, I want to be an elegant person. It is not a matter of clothes, it is a matter of attitude. I don't need to bow myself to anyone except Jesus. The premise of being kind is being equal in terms of human dignity. It takes conscious practice to get rid of the worthless thought, but it's worth it.
