The story developed to the most exciting part, which including the deep magic and the deeper magic. I have no special feeling about the story but the portraits of the characters impressed me a lot.

I also learnt lots of expressions.

When he had been made to walk far further than he had ever known that anybody could walk, the Witch at last halted in a dark valley all overshadowed with fir trees and yew trees.

I think here 'had been made to do' means you're forced to do or reluctant to do. It could be used in situations like this one.

He was too tired even to notice how hungry and thirsty he was.

too ... (even) to , this is a common phrase could be used a lot.

“Perhaps the Wolf will smell us out and bring us news,” said the Witch.

smell out

you can smell out something which is hidden (find/ find out)

you can also smell out some secrets  (detect/ feel/ tell)  smell a plot out

It was the sound of a knife being sharpen.

I like this expression. It bring up the image vividly.

A chap can’t mind everything at once—what’s that? Oh, sorry, it’s only an old stump!

Mostly if you do not mind something, you are not annoyed by it.

For instance, do you mind my smoking? No, I don't mind.

But here mind has the similar meaning as care/ take care of/ look after

If you mind a child or something such as a shop or luggage, you take care of it, usually while the person who owns it or is usually responsible for it is somewhere else.

But everyone became perfectly still in the end, so that you noticed even small sounds like a bumblebee flying past, or the birds in the forest down below them, or the wind rustling the leaves.

still

Still could describe something is about to happen, but still has not happened yet.

In this sentence, it means staying in the same position and not making any noise.

The Witch was just turning away with a look of fierce joy on her face when she stopped and said, “But how do I know this promise will be kept?

fierce

This word is supposed to describe some strong feelings. Here fierce joy means very happy.

On and on he led them, into dark shadows and out into pale moonlight, getting their feet wet with the heavy dew.

It is a phrase that could be used to describe situations like something keeps happening or every now and then it happens.

The Hags made a dart at him and shrieked with triumph when they found that he made no resistance at all.

Resistance to an attack consists of fighting back against the people who have attacked you.

SO made no resistance here mean he gave up resisting.

But he made no noise, even when the enemies, straining and tugging, pulled the cords so tight that they cut into his flesh.

make no noise

IN last sentence we learned that make no resistance can be use to describe when someone gives up. Here make no noise can be used to say someone is quiet because of fear, anxiety or other emotions.

“Oh, how can they?” said Lucy, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Thebrutes, the brutes!” for now that the first shock was over the shorn face of Aslanlooked to her braver, and more beautiful, and more patient than ever.

tears streaming down her cheeks

Apparently Lucy was heart-broken. We learnt that from the expression. Tears stream like a river. That must be a lot of tears.

The word tear has another meaning like if you tear paper/ cloth or other material apart, you pull it into several parts.

Phrases like tear up/ tear down

Have you ever had a gallop on a horse?

gallop

When a horse gallops, it runs very fast so that all four legs are off the ground at the same time. If you gallop a horse, you make it gallop. 使马疾驰/ 马疾驰

If you gallop, you ride a horse that is galloping.  骑马疾驰

If something such as a process gallops, it develops very quickly and is often difficult to control. 飞速发展

If you do something at a gallop, you do it very quickly.

He rushes on and on, never missing his footing, never hesitating, threading his way with perfect skill between tree trunks, jumping over bush and briar and the smaller streams, wading the larger, swimming the largest of all.

on and on here again

I like this sentence a lot! He rushes on and on, and the structure of the sentence goes repeatedly on and on.

I'm happy with the Kings and Queens of Narnia and once you are kings of Narnia, you'll always be kings of Narnia. It's interesting.

Finally we got to the end of the story. It is the end of the adventure of the wardrobe, but just the beginning of adventure of Narnia. To be honest with you, it is really a little childish for me. I prefer Hobbits or Lord of the Rings rather than this sort of fairy tales.

Look forward to next book!
