The Sound of Spring:The Rain

In this early morn,

  The sky darkens,

    As if night has fallen.

It’s the prelude to a storm.

Hark! The music starts!

  Di-li-da-la, di-li-da-la!

    First remote, then close,

Rain drops on trees and roofs.

The music goes on.

Now it’s raining cats and dogs,

So loud as to cover the sound of the piano.

My eight-year-old son cannot keep playing.

Running out of the house, he cries:

  “Wow! It's gorgeous, mom!

It must be fun walking in the rain!”

      “Indeed, honey. Why not?”

Putting on our boots and holding an umbrella,

Mother and son walk out into the rain.

Here and there on the ground

      Form little streams and ponds.

So excited my son is,

  He jumps and stamps.

    Water splashes

      And he giggles.

The raging torrent

  Frightens a big red carp

Who wags its tail hard to stay

Up the roaring waterfall

Lightnings flash and thunders crack.

Not many creatures are in sight.

Yet in a corner a big snail is crawling

Slowly towards the open ground!

Now night falls.

  Somewhere by the mountainside

The sound of a bull is heard.

      It’s not a bull, it’s a bullfrog!
