In the International Building where I work, I think more than half of the working staff are women... Being a working mother, life was hard for quite some years; but I have got through... So have many of my female colleagues... We should be proud of ourselves...

Nevertheless, I have also come across many hardworking women who work even harder and who are always sacrificing themselves selflessly to support the families and children... I talked with one weather-beaten lady from the countryside on a breakfast table last year... Though maltreated by her husband and haunted by serious diseases, she is in fact the only bread winner in the family, earning a meagre wage terribly needed by the family...

A younger friend of mine works for a private company; meanwhile, she sells goods on the internet... Last year she also started to run her own business in her spare time, for she is firmly convinced that everyone should have her own career...

Another 'model worker' I know is a young mother who runs a chicken farm in the remote mountain... When she is repeating the monotonous hard work day after day, she is also self-teaching laws in order to receive better education... When her husband is recruited into the local government, she has to run the farm alone most of the time; simultaneously she co-manages a country hostel with her siblings... She must have four pairs of hands to do all those jobs...

One of my own teachers is almost a workaholic... Mainly lecturing in her university, she also give lectures in universities nationwide... Teaching, researching, tutoring, collaberating - ceaseless workloads... She often leaves her office until after 11 pm... I think she doesn't work that hard for money but for the sense of self-fulfillment and achievement...

Diligent women like them are numerous in our society... True that they contribute to half of the national econony... What distinguishes China in the world in the past decades is, in a great degree, the immense sacrifice they have made... But give them some time for a rest when they are tired... Tolerate them when they err... Love them all the time... - Yesterday was Mother's Day... Chinese women are super mothers...
