PYP viewed inquiry as“Persistent Questioning”. PYP 曾把探究视作“持续性的提问。”

然而IB向来严谨，除了提问能引向真实的探究之外，就没有其他方法了吗？幼儿园的小朋友一开始根本不会提问，怎么探究？Judith Wells Lindfors 在其Children's Inquiry: Using Language to Make Sense of the World中给出了不一样的视角：在探究过程中，老师除了担任引导者，更需要成为一个细心的听众，听出孩子的“探究语言 Language Acts/ Inquiry Utterance"。如下图，孩子们没有提出很多的问题，但从讨论的语言中可以看出探究出新知，并引向更深入更为真实的理解。
