78 名词单数 还是复数，这是个值得考虑的问题

在英语语法中，总会有一些特殊的名词，让你不晓得他是单数还是复数，下面我就将英语在用系列《剑桥中级语法》中的这一小节整理笔记写出来。

1. 形复意复

• 形式是复数，意思也是复数

裤子类：trousers 长裤 pants 内裤（英国翻译为内裤，美国指长裤） jeans 牛仔裤 tights 紧身裤 shorts 短裤 pyjamas (一套)睡衣睡裤

生活类： glasses 眼镜 scissors 剪刀 binoculars 双筒望远镜

例句：My trouser are too long .我的长裤太长了

注意：

I need some new glasses .= I need a pair of glasses. 我需要一副新的眼镜。

2. 形复意单

• 形式是复数，意思是单数。

news （不可数名词）新闻

以-ics结尾的学科名词

athletics 体育（课） ，体育运动 gymnastics 体操（运动）
mathematics 数学 maths 数学 physics 物理学 electronics 电子学 economics经济学 politics 政治学

3. 形复意双[单复数同形]

形式是复数，意思既可以是单数也可以是复数。具体是单数还是复数要根据句子的而定。

• means 方法，工具 series 系列 species 物种，种类

例句：

a means of transport 一种交通工具

many means of transport 许多种交通工具

a television series 一部电视连续剧
two television series 两部电视连续剧

a species of bird 一种鸟
200 species of bird 200种鸟

• government 政府 staff 职员 team 团队
  family家庭 audience 观众 ，听众，读者 committee 委员会
  company 公司 firm 公司 还有体育团队的名称， 公司名称等

The government want/wants to increase taxes.

政府想提高税收。

Scotland is/are playing France next week in a football match .（现在进行时态表将来）

苏格兰队下周将和法国队有足球比赛。

4. 其他容易搞错单复数的名词

• person 个人 （单数） 和 people 人们，人民（复数）

  例句：He is a nice person .他是个不错的人

  Many people don't have enough to eat .

  许多人都吃不饱饭。

• police 警察（复数） 和 policeman /policewoman/police officer （根据句子判断单复数） 男警察/女警察/警官

注意:man的复数为men，woman的复数为women

Do the police know how the accident happened ?

警察知道这起事故是怎么发生的吗？

My uncle is a policeman .

我的叔叔是一名警察。

• 数字+ 钱/时间/距离 （看做是一个事物）做主语，动词要用单数形式。

Ten thousand pounds was stolen in the robbery .

一万英镑在抢劫案中被盗。

Three years is a long time to be without a job.

三年是很长时间没有工作。

Six miles is a long way to walk every day.

每天走6英里是一段很长的路。
