在一个意群中,重音往往放在意群的最后一个实意词上。

还有中国学生常常把元音度得太短,注意任何词都是台阶式的。no--,go--.

Get sth underway: begin sth.

补:let me preface this for saying...在正式发言之前,我想说……

Wannabe: someone who tries to fit a role; imitating the behavior of a certain role or person.

补:a wannabe cook 想成为厨师的人; a would-be mother准妈妈

From scratch: from all original ingredients; from beginning

Greatest thing since sliced bread: a fantastic product, sth or sb very exciting or useful.

In all honesty: to tell you the truth, to speak openly.

Just the ticket (for): exactly what is needed.

Time-crunched: not having much time

补充: in a time crunch=in a hurry

Get cracking (on): to get started

Hit the shelves: to be released, to be available for purchase

Beat sb to the punch: to do something before sb else has a chance.

Go-to guy/gal: the person everyone goes to for a specific matter.

In the loop: informed, having the most up-to-date information.

补: keep sb in/out of the loop=make  sb (not) on the same page.

Get right on that/it: start working on sth immediately.

Make headway: make progress

Dead end: when no more progress can be made.

补: I'm going no where.我毫无进展。  Is sth going any where?=How I'd sth coming along?

In the doghouse with: when sb is angry at you.

Learn one's lesson: change one's behavior based on experience.

Turn over a new leaf: start behaving better, to break a bad habit.= Start a fresh/new.

Hold sth against sb: to be angry at sb for sth.

Busybody: a person who interferes with the business of others, a nosy person who gets into other people's business.

Patch things up: to repair a relationship.

Give sb the silent treatment: stop talking to sb out of anger (usually for a short period of time).

Blow over: calm down again.
