One day, while Marianne is walking home from somewhere, it starts raining heavily and Marianne twists her ankle in the ‘struggle’ to get home. John Willoughby ( a friend of Colonel Brandon and later Marianne’s boyfriend ) sees her in trouble and helps her onto his horse-drawn carriage and takes her to her house. After her rescue, Marianne falls in love with Willoughby and are secretly engaged. After a while, Willoughby has to go back to London for business reasons leaving a distraught Marianne with her family. After a while, another man, Edward Ferrars comes along and Elinor falls in love with him. Edward then gets uninherited the same way the Dashoods did and then marries Elinor.
