童书24 John Rocco

I loved this story about modern life. This beginning book is about a kid who wants to play a game with his family, but everyone is so busy talking on phones, watching TV or doing work on a computer. The kid is up in their room playing a video game to not be bored when the lights go out in the big city at night in August, so it’s hot out.

I love being snowed in and I have been through one 3 foot snow, but it melted in like a day. It was disappointing. I had a 2 foot snow in MI one year. This story came out of the authors memories of a 4 foot blizzard in New England in 1978. I would love to experience something like this once. It’s a whole different kind of world when there is that much snow. We are having a heat wave right now and it’s simply making me feel irritable.

Great book and really fantastic illustrations — like something out of an old Norman Rockwell catalog. A cute, engaging story about how a kid can find, catch, and train his very own train. Nice use of humor for both adults and kids. My only ding would be that some of the illustrations show kids standing on tracks waving at a train to stop.

Throughout the story, the boy is trying to put his robots to sleep, but there always seems to be "something" else the little robots need in order to fall asleep. As a parent, I constantly deal with this challenge with my son and daughter.
