On 29th February, I arrived in Sri Lanka with many expectations and began my amazing adventure from that time. The first day of my journey, I found the life here was rather slow and people seemed never hurried. I took the slowest train I have ever taken to my first destination, Horton Plains. Also, I waited for 30 minutes for my dinner in an empty restaurant. However, it was not annoying at all for the reason that I can enjoy the tropical sceneries out of the window and took my time. I became the most excited person in Horton Plains because I was the late comer and other team members got wet and had a tough time on their the day before I came. But the beauty of Horton Plains healed and refreshed them quickly. We walked through the plains, touched the grass, exposed to the strong sunshine, got really close to the friendly deer, I even drank the water from a stream directly. In a word, we seized every opportunity to feel the nature. My 21th birthday party Thanks for all my friends here who gave me a surprise party. I will never forget all of you. I wrote this on my diaries. The trip of rafting must be the scariest day in my whole life and I almost cried for 3 times. We got down on a sharp waterfall, jumped over 5m to the water and went rafting during which time the boat turned over twice. Luckily, I had the greatest team leader and kindest and bravest teammates in the world who gave me loads of guidance as well as encouragement. Under their help, I broke through myself and became just as brave as Ominia, Monica and other girls. Though I said to others I would never try such scaring trip, I would regret for not having tried if I hadn’t come that day. It was also an unique experience I could not have in China because such dangerous activities would be forbidden. Pettah Market The best and most expensive seafood I ate in Sri Lanka On camping day, we went to Love’s mountain which was not so popular because some local people said they had never heard about it when I talked to some strangers on the bus. We climbed for a whole rainy night and kept awake when getting into the camp only for the sunrise on the next morning. It was worthwhile and I got a sense of achievement while staring at the route on the top. time to say goodbye to our dear Egyptian friends who left earlier It was my first time to swim in the sea and drank such bitter and salty seawater. As we put our bags where our phones were, we didn’t record the time we spent with a variety of colorful creatures. While snorkeling, numerous groups swam around me and surprisingly, they were not afraid of human at all which were totally different from these in China. Beyond that, I saw corals there and picked some from the bank. This was a marvelous experience and I learnt a lot, for example, the coach taught us the names of the fish. A month passed unconsciously, I felt like it was just a fantasy. I escaped from the coldness and warmed by not only the sun in Sri Lanka but also the people here who wear their smile all the time. Thanks for the chance AISEC offers and our team leader, our buddies, our teammates and lots strangers who devoted their precious time to help me.
