This is new pic book for me, it’s written by Jean Marzollo, illustrated by Judith Moffatt. When I first saw the cover, I felt like the boy and the caterpillar were chatting among the flowers. The whole style was kind of cartoon.

Started from the 1st page, “I’m a caterpillar, munch, crunch. I’m getting bigger! Munch crunch”. So obviously the “I” was the caterpillar, he was telling the story by himself. Then we came to the 2nd page, “munch, crunch. Munch, crunch. That’t it, no more food, I’m done”. Here meaned the caterpillar was full, and he was really big, funny. The 3rd page came to “it’s time to hang from a stem. I wait and wait and wait”. I guessed it would sure attract the kids to know what happened next? Coz even the adults were interested, like me.

The next page came to “I shiver I twist I split my skin”, the pic was so beautiful, I even couldn’t help to say. Then the next page came to “My old skin falls away. I’m soft inside. I am a pupa(PEW-pah). I grow a shell to protect the pupa. I am now a chrysalis”. The story connected very closely. The next page came to “I keep changing. Soon I’ll come out. What will I be?” “A butterfly! Push. Crack. Wow! I’m free! My wings are all wet.” Then the next page came to “My wings dry off. They unfold”, the process was so magical for me, not to say the kids.

The book told the whole process how the butterfly came from a very tiny caterpillar, the pic and the sentences were very easy and interesting for the kids to understand. Furthermore, they could learn how the life comes from, I guess that will bury a beautiful seed in the kids’ heart. I like this book so much for the languages、pics、significance、love and etc.
