My favorite teacher is from America. Though I’ve never met him, he gave me more help on learning English in the past several years. More luckily, his instruction is completely free. Today, I ‘d like to share with you the story about my favorite teacher.
I knew Mr. Wu on the 6SQ website several years ago. Because my colleague quitted, his work must be transferred to me. I tried to write the daily, weekly, monthly reports in English. Sadly, though I desired I had the ability to finish the work, My English level was limited. Sometimes, I didn’t know how to build up those reports in English, so I consulted several experienced quality management people on the 6SQ website. Nevertheless, only one gave me a response. That was Mr. Wu.
Teacher Wu is more than sixty years now and he worked in the Boeing company of America as a senior engineer. Besides, he is also a university professor on engineering. Though he has retired from the Boeing company, he often goes to other countries to lecture for undergraduates.
When I wrote the email to him in English at the first time, I could hardly write a right English sentence. After he knew my bewilderment from our communications, I was told that he’s willing to teach me English free. To be honest, in today’s money rules society, I didn’t believe whether his word was true and I also couldn’t believe my luck that I could know a teacher like him to instruct my English without in return. Moreover, I was only such a regular clerk having thousands salary. If he asked me signing up his course after he gave me training, I could not afford to pay for it. More difficultly, to my English knowledge level that time, at least it took me three- five years to practice if I could use English in my work. Also, asked myself, which teacher was willing to teach me so long without in return?! Would the world give me a free lunch?! At first, I also thought his instruction would end shortly after he knew my poor basis and my limited economic capacity. Though I had these negative thoughts, when he said giving me help free in learning English, I was also thankful and polite to accept his kindness…
In the following days, months and years, per the teacher’s suggestions, I often sent him my English diaries and daily writing topics through the mailbox. Every time, he modified my every sentence carefully and then gave me many suggestions including all punctuations I used wrong. For every email, he basically gave me a response within 24hours. He was strict for my learning. Even I communicated with him in English through Skype software, he never accepted my grammar mistakes. Within several years, the teacher helped me modify more than four hundred my English writing including my diaries, work English expression, how to write email to the foreign suppliers correctly and so on.
In the learning process, I thank teacher Wu’s help very much. He not only taught me how to learn English, but also often gave me many advice at work. In my eyes, he is so kindness, very read and has strong sense of responsibility.
For his help, I am sorry that I don’t know how to thank him. So far, I can’t afford to go to America to visit him in these two years. He is a Christian, too. I believe God bless him forever. Today, I wrote down his name on my daily prayer list. I know he and his wife have travel plans around the world every year. From tomorrow morning, I will pray for their travel, health and peace, which is the only thing that I can do now.
