ESD Control Principles

 Define the control level needed to protect parts. For example, ANSI/ESD S20.20 provides adequate controls for devices with withstand thresholds of 100 volts HBM, 200 volts CDM.

 Define the EPA in which all conductive and dissipative materials, including personnel, are bonded or electrically connected and attached to a known ground (or contrived ground as on an aircraft, ship or other vehicle).

 Limit the presence of insulating materials in the EPA. Assess the risk associated with charge that may be present on insulators in the EPA. Provide ionization systems to neutralize the charge on the necessary insulators.

 Define the transportation packaging requirements for all phases of the operations.

 Provide routine audits of the EPA and other control plan elements (e.g., training of personnel).
