Book Two Unit Sixty-nine

I was being tested for a driving licence for the third time. I began to acquire confidence after I had succeeded in driving in heavy traffic and out of town. The examiner must
have been pleased with my performance for he smild and made an assumption that a
child would suddenly cross the street in front of me. He then added that I must stop
within five feet as soon as he tapped on the window. However, my response to his
instruction was slow. What is more, I pressed the brake pedal so hard that we were
both thrown foward. The examiner told me in a mournful voice that I had just killed that child.
