cinder meetup summer 2015 (8.7)

August 5th Weekly meeting Cancelled due to Cinder Midcycle Sprint.

Calling it a sprint now instead of a meet-up.

I list some important Cinder Midcycle topic which we care about.

Out of Tree Drivers?

neutron  decompose vendor plugins/drivers for neutron-aas

Mike's Wishes:
Mike doesn't want any driver code in tree except for the reference implementation.
He doesn't want to bog down the driver developers with reviews.+1

There are lots of things  he concern. He worry about that Cinder's end user experience will get worse.
By moving the drivers out of tree code quality is going to go down.

The other operator
Xing noted that there are customers that won't buy products that are out of tree?
Drivers that aren't in tree have been proven to be poorly written.
Seems like a separate tree for *all* the drivers in Openstack might solve this problem and maintain customer confidence

Mike is still going to use BPs to track the changes that are made out of tree.

ToDo: We need to document expectations on logging, formatting etc.
ToDo: What is acceptable to -1 for and not acceptable?  We should document that as well.
ToDo: How do handle +0 reviews?  Follow up patches?  Problem is that that doesn't always happen.
ToDo: Create L-3 priorities etherpad early.  Mike will note what is ready to be reviewed, what isn't and the order.

Nova/Cinder API (Change all the things!!!!!):
This topic is about that :The API and contracts between nova and cinder

OpenStack M version have a name Mitaka.

https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/CinderNovaAPI
State management should be done by Cinder, but currently isn't
Getting drivers to audit connections could be done during Liberty
Cinder is going to have to take the first steps to making things right
This is going to take a lot of collaboration and coordination with Nova
