- GAME PLAY:
- To play the game, go to http://www.sun.com/templeofthesungame and click on the Play button.
- The game is played from the keyboard. The arrow keys allow the player to move the character to the left and right, as well as climb up and down walls that are covered with vines. The "C" key causes the character to jump, the "X" key results in a crouch, and the "Z" key causes the character to unleash his whip attack.
- After playing the first five levels of the game, the player encounters a registration form that must be submitted to advance to the sixth and final level. Additionally, the player will need to use Sun Studio software in order to continue playing the game. The Sun Studio software can be downloaded at http://developers.sun.com/solaris/downloads/sun_studio.jsp or the player can request an installation DVD containing Solaris Express, Developer Edition, which includes Sun Studio software, when submitting the registration form. The player may leave the game at this point to install Sun Studio software. You must play the first five levels of the game in one session in order to reach registration and to have your game counted.
- Once Sun Studio software has been received and installed, the player may return to the game and continue at the previous spot by pressing the Continue button on the game’s web page. The player will be asked for the e-mail address that was used during registration. Upon entering the e-mail address, the game will continue at the end of the fifth level with the player’s original score.
- When the player returns to the game, the player will be presented with several lines of C++ code and will be asked to copy that code into Sun Studio software and compile it. Compiling the code will create an executable file on the player’s computer. When this file is executed, a message is displayed on the player’s computer. This message is to be typed into the game to proceed to the final level.
- Once the player completes the final level, the player’s final score is recorded to the database and the game session is marked as completed. The high scores list is displayed and the game ends.
- SCORING: The scoring in Temple of the Sun is based on two things: collecting the spinning pieces of gold and disposing of Guardians with the player's whip. Alone, a piece of gold is worth 2400 points and a Guardian is worth 12,000 points. However, each time the player scores, a one-second timer begins. During this time, each successive score becomes worth more than the last, extending the one-second timer each time. This is known as a combo. A combo continues until a full second passes without a change in score, at which time the combo ends and the timer resets. The first piece in a combo is always worth its base value, the second is worth twice its base value, the third three times its base value, and so on. Thus, with careful planning, the player's score can be considerably increased.
- PENALTIES: Each time the character comes in contact with a hazard, his health will decrease. This also decreases his store of treasure by one hundred points per point of health lost. Thus, a hazard that causes ten points of damage will also reduce the player's score by 1000 points. If his health decreases to zero, his store of treasure will disappear completely and he will begin the current level from the beginning.
5. WINNING: In order to win a prize in Temple of the Sun, the player must (a) successfully finish the game and (b) achieve the highest score of all successful players. In the event of a tie at any prize level, the winner will be the person among the tied entries who had the fewest deaths in the tied game session. If a tie still remains after the first tiebreaker, the winner will be the person among the tied entries who played the fewest number of games in order to achieve the high score. If a tie still remains after the second tiebreaker, the tied entrants will be required to replay the game until only one entrant has the highest score.
Should a potential winner be disqualified, the prize will be awarded to the entrant with the next highest score.
AN ENTRANT IS NOT A WINNER OF ANY PRIZE UNLESS AND UNTIL ENTRANT’S ELIGIBILITY AND THE POTENTIAL WINNING ENTRY HAS BEEN VERIFIED AND ENTRANT HAS BEEN NOTIFIED THAT VERIFICATION IS COMPLETE.
ALL VERIFICATION DECISIONS MADE BY SPONSOR ARE FINAL. SPONSOR WILL NOT ACCEPT SCREEN SHOTS, AFFIDAVITS OR OTHER EVIDENCE OF WINNING IN LIEU OF ITS VALIDATION PROCESS. ANY ENTRY THAT OCCURS AFTER THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED FOR ANY REASON MAY BE DEEMED A DEFECTIVE ENTRY AND VOID.
