Chapter 15
In the country there was draining(排水), planting and clearing, until the next summer saw the whole country gloden with wheat crop.

So the bud bloomed into a flower: it was not the father, however, who first learned that the child had developed into the woman.

Lucy's red-faced cheeks and her bright, happy eyes showed clearly that she was in love.

Let every girl of the ture faith marry one of the chosen; for if she marries a Gentile(文中支非摩门教徒的异教徒), she commits a serious sin.
拓展:The seven deadly sins: Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath and Sloth.

One glance at her pale, frightened face showed him that she heard what had happened.

Chapter 16
Ferrier was powerless, and could see no way of avioding the blow(劫难、打击) that was coming to himself and his daughter.

The welcoming between the lovers wass warm, but brief, for minutes were precious, and there was much to be done.

The creature was too large to lift, so Jefferson cut away one thigh(大腿)and part of the side.

Then his eye fell upon an object which made his blood run cold(毛骨悚然).

However, his active spirit shook off the lethargy(倦怠) which sprang from despair.

Year passed into year, his black hair turned grey and his health failed, but still he searched on, a human bloodhound(猎犬), with his mind wholly set upon the one object of revenge to which he had devoted his life.

Chapter 17
"Do you cosider, Doctor, that there is any immediate danger?" the former asked.
"Most certainly there is," I answered.

When once(一旦,只要) I found them out, I knew that I had them at my mercy(任我摆布).

The moment for which I had waited so long had at last come. I had my enemies within my power(在我的掌控之中).

They must have thought that there was some chance of their being followed, for they would never go out alone, and never go out after nightfall.

Chapter 18
He staggered(摇摇晃晃地走) back with a pale face, trembling all over.
At the sight, I leaned my back against the door and laughed loud and long.

"Would you murder me?" he stammered(结结巴巴地说).

I believe I would have *had a fit *(突然发作) of some sort(也许,大概) / if the blood had not gushed(涌出) from my nose / and brought me to my senses(恢复过来).

Let us see if there is justice upon the earth, or if we are ruled by chance(碰运气).

Chapter 19
He cowered away(畏缩着)with wild cries and prayers for mercy, but I drew my knife and held it to his throat until he had obeyed me.

Instead of taking the chance, he sprang from his bed and leapt at(向……扑去) my throat. In self-defense I stabbed him to the heart.

Chapter 20
There was no wound upon the dead man's body, but the expresision upon his face assured me that he had learned of(得知) his fate before it came upon him.
Men who die from heart disease, or any sudden natural cause, would not show fear upon his faces.

There is no branch of detective science / which is so important and so much neglected / as the art of tracing footsteps.

You see the whole thing is a chain of logical sequences(相关联的一组事件或构想) without a break or a flaw.

至此,A Study in Scarlet 的笔记也都整理完了。
