The Shenzhen International Art Fair was founded in 2011. Since 2016, the Fair has focused on art consumption, and has strictly controlled the type and price of the works displayed. The “Art·Home” concept of was proposed to bring art closer to people’s daily life. The audience has been responsive to the young artists theme. Based on this enthusiasm, the concept of "Yi Ye Qing He" was suggested. It focuses on a creative environment for young artists and explores the more high-quality works and outstanding artists that exemplify the characteristics of a new age. Working together, they have taken on the mission of building a platform for artists and collectors that will permit the development of a prosperous art market.
(Wu Qiong)
(Zhou Quan)
These two are highly influential young artists. They have held dozens of personal exhibitions and their works are widely collected at home and abroad.
As a young artist representing the post-80s generation, he graduated from Singapore's famous Nanyang Academy of Fine Art, majoring in oil painting and sculpture. He has participated in many different types of international art fairs. Wu is an art representative with an international perspective, being able to combine Chinese and Western culture in his works.
When asked whether the material and styles had changed among his works, Wu Qiong replied: "The look of the work is fixed, but it will continue to change with my growth, different moods and material selections. An artist always strives to seek new things and endows works with their own ideas. "
There are three major series of work presented by this young artist: Born in the 80s, Quick March, and Made in China.
Wu Qiong, has his own interpretation. “My art shows my yearning for love and romance. The inspiration for my work comes from my childhood dreams, because I was the most beautiful version of myself in them. The characters are shaped by their moods and growth through a continuing process of progress and change.”
As for why these little creations are open mouthed and have their eyes closed, Wu Qiong said: "life is generous enough to give us art, art is growing up gradually as time goes by. This world is filled with gorgeous colors, among which the color of gray exists. The reason why I do not want them to open their eyes is that, I’m hesitate to let them witness the grey part. Just let them live in their own world."
From Wu Qiong's words, we can feel that he regards his works as an actual presence in our world. Each possessing their own loves, dreams and world. They are changing and growing along with us. This is also the reason why this post 80’s young artist’s work is so representative.
