Good evening ladies and gentlemen, dear toastmasters and dear guests:
先生女士们，各位头马小伙伴，大家晚上好！
As a matter of fact, people often misread an event or circumstance as an adversity or setback. The problem is that we tend to judge events on the basis of their immediate impact, but, as life teaches us, the long-term consequences of an action can be quite different from what we initially observe.The truth is that adversity can serve as both a learning experience and a masked opportunity. In fact, I would take it one step further and say that there is an offsetting opportunity in every adversity and every obstacle.
事实上，人们通常把一个事件误认为是逆境或者阻碍。问题是，我们倾向于通过及时效应来判断某件事情，但是，就像生活教会我们的那样，一件事情的长期效应往往和它的即时效应截然不同。事实上，我们不仅能从逆境中学习，逆境中还通常隐藏着机遇。我想更进一步来解释: 在我看来，每个逆境或阻碍中都蕴藏着机遇。
Six years ago, I was facing the college entrance examination. At that time, my dreamy university was Zhengzhou University, which is the only “211 project” university in my hometown. In order to realize my dream, I studied very hard back to high school. And I thought I’ve already spent all my efforts, but, guess what, I totally failed. In the end, I missed that university and was enrolled by another university. At that time, I was very sad and I thought that was my doomsday. However, it turns out that the four years I spent in my university was a wonderful time in my life. I made many good friends and broadened my horizon in that period of time. And I think I will never forget so many good memories created in my college time.
六年前，我面临着高考。在那时，我理想中的学校是郑州大学，因为这是我家乡唯一一所211院校。为了考取此校，高中的时候我学习超级努力，我甚至认为我已经尽力而为了。但是最终，我与理想院校擦肩而过，被录取到了郑州的另一所本科院校。那时，我觉得很悲伤，甚至认为那是我的世界末日。然而，结果证明我四年大学生活是人生中最美好的一段时光。在那段时间，我不但交了许多好朋友，也开阔了自己的眼界，许多美好的回忆也许一辈子都不会忘记。
Two years ago, I’ve decided to get a master’s degree. Since I wanna being a teacher in the future, so I chose Central China Normal University as the perfect one. Because my major of this university is in top 3 in China, and there are so many distinguished professors there. Besides, it is very convenient to go from my home, it’s a close distance so that I can back home very quickly. Unfortunately, I failed again. I got a high score but I didn’t pass the interview part. At last, I was adjusted to another university in Beijing. So I think it’s my destiny and my lucky to meet all of you. As we all know, Beijing is an attractive city, here, every person I met gives me an impression of hard working and energetic which encourages me to be a better person. And also, there are so many activities and exhibitions that we can take part in, such as joining the Toastmaster Club and knowing so many excellent people here. It’s just like a magic in my life, because before came to Beijing, I never thought that my life would be such splendid.
两年前，我决定考一个硕士学位。因为以后的人生目标是当一名老师，所以，研究生院校我就选了华中师范大学。因为，这个学校的外国语言学及应用语言学专业在全国可以排名前三，学校里有很多有威望的教授和老师。而且，我家是河南的，离武汉比较近，如果考上了这所学校，我能很轻易回到家，不用担心寒暑假抢不到火车票。不幸的是，我再一次失败了。虽然我的笔试分数很高，但是却没有通过面试环节。最终，我被调剂到了北京的一所学校。所以，今天晚上能够见到大家，都是命中注定呀~
我们都知道，北京是一座具有魔力的城市，在这里，我遇到的每个人都给我一种积极向上、精力充沛的印象。这也激励着我努力成为更好的自己。同时，在北京有许许多多的活动和展览，只要我们感兴趣，总能找到一群志同道合的人。比如，喜欢演讲的人就可以加入头马俱乐部，在这里，有一大群善良有爱又有才的人等着你。这就像是我人生中的一个魔法，因为来北京之前，我从没想过自己在北京的生活会是如此的精彩。
So, I did not enter my dreamy university but I still got amazing university life. I did not join my ideal master college but I had better life in a more wonderful place. there are indeed adversities in our life. We cannot change them, but we do can change our mind, we can change our attitude to life. So, please try to accept these adversities happened in our life, and maybe in a long run, which will benefit us a lot.
最后我想说的是，虽然我没有考上理想中的大学，但是，我的大学生活很精彩？虽然我没有考上理想中的硕士院校，但是我来到了一个神奇的地方、我的生活也越来越美好。不得不承认，在我们生活中有许多的逆境，虽然我们无力改变外界环境，但是我们改变自己的内心，可以我们对待生活的态度。所以，试着接受这些发生在我们身上的逆境吧，或许长久来看，这些逆境会对我们大有裨益。
