1. Languish

to exist in an unpleasant or unwanted situation, often for a longtime:

After languishing in years, he finally finished the degree. 

2. Retrieval (NU)

the act or process of getting something back, especially money or something that has been lost:

[IT] the process of getting stored information from a computer:

[Example] He design different retrieval structure that worked much better for him.

This is unable to retrieval the message 

3. Daunting

making you feel slightly frightened or worried about your ability to achieve something:

[Example]...and it seems unlikely that the task of working on his memory three times a week seemed particularly daunting.

The country was faced with the daunting prospect of endless civil wars.

In all, to reach the effective purposeful practice is to define the goal, break down into a plan,  be focused and learn form the feedbacks. It is crucial to go outside of people's comfort zone and realize the way of practice is has its effectiveness or not. 

|個人感想|

我主要分為文章理解與批判思考兩部分來看這篇文章,在理解目的性練習方面,在我理解這裡面最重要的是要擁有練習的回饋,才能了解自己練習中錯誤的地方是什麼,並且確定已經改正了。另一點就是適用對的方法練習,這似乎說起來很簡單,但是從開始學習技能的思維模式甚至是練習方法,都會影響我們得成果。這兩點讓我覺得老師、教練對學生學習的影響甚大。

在批判性思考方面,作者通篇都以學術研究或是邏輯推理為基礎再敘述他的觀點,裡面提到班傑明富蘭克林不善於下棋是因為沒有讓自己離開舒適範圍這般努力去學棋藝,那愛因斯坦拼字有錯誤也是因為沒有離開舒適範圍般地去練習嗎?這部分相比之前的寫作邏輯似乎考究不足。
