1.  I arrived in London ...

arrive at the airport   -> 接小地点  （at：强调地点）

arrive in the scene  -> 接小地点  （in: 强调 到达目的地的里边）

还可以用：arrive on the scene  (on: 到达现场上面)

主要看介词的词性。

at last 最后，终于；

还可以用：in the end、finally、eventually  表示 最后，终于。

black and dark -> black 表示颜色的黑， dark 表示光线很暗。  这表表示 又黑又暗。

2. I did not know the way to my hotel, So I asked a porter.

我不知道去宾馆的路，所以我问了搬运工师傅。

句子的分类（按照结构划分）：

简单句 -> 一个句子只表达一个观点， 描述一件事的句子. -> (主+谓)

并列句 -> 把多个简单句多件事用连接词连接到一起，描述多件事。

复合句

我不但讲英语很仔细并且非常清晰。

4. I repeated my question ... , and ... he understood.

我重复问题几次， 最终他懂了。

他们英语都懂... , 但是我不懂...。

并列句: 多个简单句、多件事，一样重要，用 并列连词 连接起来。

根据自己的观点来判断 多件事的重要度。

1. 常用等列连词：

and:

both ... and ...

but:

It is summer, but/yet it is very cold.

not only ... but ... as well  不但，而且

not only ... but also ...

not only ... but ...

or：

hurry up or be late

either ... or  通常表示二选一

neither ... nor ... 既不，也不 ； 两个都不选。

I ran to the station .  I missed the bus.

I ran to the station but missed the bus.

并列句独有的特点： 相同的可以省略，不同的可以保持不变。

小练习：

They walked into the room. They sat down.

They walked into the room and sat down.

She is very beautiful. She is very smart.

She is very beautiful and very smart.

She is not only very beautiful but very smart as well.

He can not read. He cannot write.

He can neither read nor write.

常用的并列连词练习：

I washed my shirt, but it didn't get clean.

She was hungry and ate on the way home.

Who did this ? Did yo do it, or did Bob do it?

You have to move out of the way or the car cannot get past you.

并列句的省略：

She is lying in bed and she is reading a book.

She is lying in bed and reading a book.

He has retired and he has gone a broad.

HE has retired and gone a broad.

I want to quit the job and I want to start my own business.

I want to quit the job and to start my own business.

to do 是一个完成的结构。  也可以省略，但是一般保留。

三件事并列：

I wash my face.

I brush my teeth.

I comb my hair every morning.

I wash my face, brush my teeth and comb my hair every morning.

并列多件事的时候，前n-1件事使用逗号连接，最后一件事使用连接词连接。
