Portrayed in the cartoon is an instructive scene that two men, facing the same “catastrophe”, exhibit totally opposing attitudes. One of them, sad and disappointed, moans “It’s all over!” Conversely, the other, smiling on face, says “Luckily, there is still a bit left”. The contrast between them informs us that positive attitude is of great significance when exposed to frustration.

The implication of the cartoon can be abstracted as a simple truth: misfortune torturing us, to be optimistic seems to be the only way to find a turning point. In other words, anyone, who does not embrace life with positive attitude, would probably be surrounded with dullness, depression, and even desperation. Take Hellen Keller as an example. Deaf, dumb and blind, she was imagined living in the darkest hell of the world. However, smiling to all the misfortunes, with the eagerness of knowing the world and the perseverance of touching words, she finally became a burning bright public figure. No wonder the cartoonist is reminding us the significance of being optimistic.

Optimism, I am determined to say, is power not only for individuals, but for society as well. Indeed, we are supposed to deliver this power from one person to another, from one decade to another, and from one generation to another. The pervasive optimism will definitely enhance the wellbeing of individual, groups and the world.
