Docker overlay2实验理解

一、拉取nginx镜像并运行

docker run -d nginx
latest: Pulling from library/nginx

获取imageid

现在把注意力集中到两个目录

  • /var/lib/docker/overlay2
  • /var/lib/docker/image

二、 /var/lib/docker/image

查看该目录下有啥,可以想象如果有多个存储驱动的话,这里还会有aufs、devicemapper等等。。。

让我们来关注imagedb和layerdb

根据这个imageID查找

cat overlay2/imagedb/content/sha256/231d40e811cd970168fb0c4770f2161aa30b9ba6fe8e68527504df69643aa145 | grep "rootfs"

那么可以查找到该image组成部分即layerid:

  • layerdb
    然后去查找overlay2/layerdb/

我们会发现只有831c...也就是最底层的一个符合,这是因为那是因为docker使用了chainID的方式去保存这些layer,简单来说就是chainID=sha256sum(H(chainID) diffid)

接着这样就计算出了另外2个,那么里面有用的其实就只有cache-id,查看里面的内容

这三个目录就是我们第二部分在layerdb里面对应sha256/xxx的cache-id
那么我们再来回想一下,也就是我们拉取的nginx镜像由三个layer组成,即上面三个目录,因为docker就是分层拉取的(注意这是存储的概念),你在拉取的时候就能看到。
那么另外两个

init在基础的三层之上683b45065f2c731b1bf889fbc9cee24033cd0d0367d076e546e4d14903dc5298在基础的三层再加上init。
为什么要有init层?
还记得hostname /etc/resolve.conf等等吗,对了,容器在启动的时候单独搞了个init层用来干这个活。

四、最后
我们再来运行一个nginx看看overlay2目录

新增了680开头的两个目录,一个是init一个是可读可写层,底层nginx还是那三层,这样就节省了空间了。
