What is the most enjoyable moment during my workday? It is when foreign teachers visit our office! I met various foreign teachers these days with different and distinct characters. Listening to their talk with my superior was quite interesting and broadened my horizon.
Swan, the LIAO MEI king.
As a French men, Swan is strong, handsome and very ROMANTIC. One day, my superior,a young woman, was looking for something in front of him, muttering "Where are you?Where are you?". Then, to my surprise, Swan immediately said, "I am everywhere. I am in your heart." Gosh!I was really astonished at that time, but my superior seemed accustomed to his sugared words and calmly responded him, " I am not searching for you! "
Beside his French romanticism, Swan is also a "China hand", who speaks Chinese well. He once emotionally hustled into our office, exclaiming, "我是傻逼!". All interns, of course including me, was exceedingly amused by his clear but still a bit wired speaking of Chinese. O, how hard it was for us to hold back our laughter while we were in serious working environment!囧rz
Philip, a real conservative
Can you imagine in our modern age, one can live without telephone? Philip is exactly such a person! Born in 1960s, England, he was a traditional man, who resolutely refuses the use of telephone. OMG, I could hardly believe a foreigner could live and work in China without a telephone before. Now, you see, nothing is impossible.
In addition to his refusal of telephone, Philip distincts himself by his "zero teaching experience". Can you imagine that a man in his fifties resigned the work in his homeland and then started a totally new job in a faraway country? Philip managed to do this! !!!∑(°Д°ノ)ノOMG. He is so brave.
Maria, a funny Irish
Maria speaks English fast with strong Irish accent. So, it took me much effort to understand her talking with my superior. (BUT, she is not the one that challenges my listening ability most. It is Philip, who speaks decent British English, that made me desperate about my listening! I couldn't understand him at all!) She is a funny woman and I'd like to share one story of her with you.
My superior once asked where she planned travel during her vacations. She said "Shiyan", which was not a famous city in China. "Why do you want to go there" , my superior asked. "Well, I want to see...see...", she stammered. It seemed that she forgot the name of the scenic spot..Failed in recall ing the name, she began to describe it.
"Well, there are many soldiers. They were made by clay in ancient times..."
Wait! Isn't it Terra-cotta Warriors in Xi'an? Maria must have mistaken Shiyan for Xi'an. Hahaha, this time, even my serious superior bursted into laughter.( ̄y ̄)~hhhh
The above three are the most impressive foreign teachers I met. Although I met them many times, I didn't speak to them as they were recepted by my superior. I also dare not to speak with them because I am not confident in my oral English.
Maybe, next time I should try to say "Bonjour" to Swan, hhhhh.
