Lesson 51 Reward for virtue 对美德的奖赏

My friend, Herbert, has always been fat, but things got so bad recently that he decided to go on a diet. He began his diet a week ago. First of all, he wrote out a long list of all the foods which were forbidden. The list included most of the things Herbert loves: butter, potatoes, rice, beer, milk, chocolate, and sweets. Yesterday I paid him a visit. I rang the bell and was not surprised to see that Herbert was still as fat as ever. He led me into his room and hurriedly hid a large parcel under his desk. It was obvious that he was very embarrassed. When I asked him what he was doing, he smiled guiltily and then put the parcel on the desk. He explained that his diet was so strict that he had to reward himself occasionally. Then he showed me the contents of the parcel. It contained five large bars of chocolate and three bags of sweets!

From Herbert's View:

// 这边的时态不知道怎么把控
I am Herbert but my friends always call me Fatty. Altough I am 170cm tall, I have a weight of 170kg as well. I felt out of breath even if I had a short distance of walk because of my weight. Things got so bad that I decided to go on a diet last week. I wrote out a long list of all foods which were strict forbiden. This list included most things I love: chocolate, sweets, butter and hamburgers. As all things I love were forbidden, I just ate some vegetables and water for the first two days. I was very proud of me, because it was not easy for a normal man to just eat vegetables and water every day. I decided to reward myself with things I love: two large bars of chocolate and five bags of sweets.

From My's View:

As fast food is popular, obesity become a common problem. People eat more and exercise less then they put on weight day after day. They never think of control their mouth until they discover that they have not been able to put on their trousers. It is the first thing to write out a long list of foods forbidden for a man who have decided to go on a diet. They will follow the diet for the first several weeks. Their weight may lose during that time, in which case they may be happy to reward themself with many foods they love. If someone keep his/her weight or even get a weight gain, he/she will be so angry as to think that it is usefulless to be on a diet. There are only a very few people who have lost weight through strict diet.
