小时候

When I was a little kid

乡愁是一枚小小的邮票

Yearning was a tiny stamp

我在这头

I was here

母亲在那头

My mom was there

长大后，

As I grow up

乡愁是一张窄窄的船票

Yearning was a small steamer ticket

我在这头

I was here

新娘在那头

My bride was there

后来啊

Days afterwards

乡愁是一方矮矮的坟墓

Yearning was a short tomb

我在外头

Loafing around outside the world

母亲在里头

But mother was of slience for ever

而现在

At the moment

乡愁是一湾浅浅的海峡

Yearning is a shallow strait

我在这头

Watching through a mountain of people

大陆在那头。

But I , was never born in my homeland.

注：很多人把乡愁翻译为“homesick”，这是错误的。然而，homesick真正的意思是：You feel unhappy because you are far from your home。与诗中的乡愁不完全一样，所以用Yearning更为恰当，表示你对远方有一种极度的向往及思念，但却无力抵达。
