Hello, everyone! We're back with another episode of TEENS’ ANTI-VIRUS LANGUAGE TIPS. In this video, we will learn about vaccines and how they help us to fight back against diseases like the novel coronavirus.
自从中国科学家发现了新型冠状病毒的基因结构以来，全世界的科学家都在努力开发疫苗。
Since scientists in China found the genetic structure of the novel coronavirus, scientists from all over the world have been working hard to develop a vaccine.
疫苗是一种致病病毒或者病菌的较弱形态。它们能够帮助人体学会如何应对病毒或者细菌。这让人能够在接种之后不易受该病侵袭。
A vaccine is something that has a weaker form of a virus or bacteria that causes a disease. Vaccines help by letting the body learn how to fight the virus or bacteria. This makes it less likely for a person to become sick with the disease later on.
人类第一个成功开发的疫苗是1796年研发出来的天花疫苗。当时，天花是一种极度致命的疾病，在全世界都有爆发。据估算仅仅在20世纪，该病就夺走了3亿人的生命。有了疫苗的帮助，天花在1979年被彻底根除。人们相信天花疫苗挽救了2亿人的生命。
The first successful vaccine that was ever developed was the smallpox vaccine in 1796. Back then, smallpox was a very deadly disease that had outbreaks all over the world. During just the 20th century, it was estimated to have killed 300 million people. With the help of the vaccine, the disease was completely wiped out by 1979. It is believed that the vaccine was able to save up to 200 million lives.
疫苗的动词形式是vaccinate，该词的意思是接种疫苗。当你接种疫苗时，疫苗会进入你的体内。你可以说，我昨天打了疫苗。或者说，我准备去接种疫苗。
The verb form of “vaccine” is “vaccinate”. “Vaccinate” means “to give a vaccine”. When you “get vaccinated”, it means the vaccine goes into your body. You can say things like: “I got vaccinated yesterday,” or “I am going to get vaccinated.”
疫苗帮助人们应对特定的病毒或者细菌。但是有时候，当病毒或者细菌感染新的患者时，会发生变异。这就是为什么人们每年都会被推荐打流感疫苗。引发流感的病毒可能发生迅速的变化，而人们需要新的疫苗来防护它。
Vaccines help to fight against a specific virus or bacteria. But sometimes, the virus or bacteria can mutate when it infects someone new. This is why it is often encouraged to get a flu shot each year. The virus that causes the flu can change very quickly and a new vaccine is needed to prevent it.
在新型冠状病毒疫情爆发之际，我们希望全世界的科研人员能够团结起来尽快开发疫苗。他们是能够终结这种新型疾病的英雄。
With the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, we hope that scientists and researchers around the world can work together to make a vaccine soon. They are the heroes who can help to put an end to the new disease.
