                            dread,afraid,worry 到底要我用哪个？

"I am afraid"有"scared"害怕的意思。

"dread something"，意思是“真的不想做或者不喜欢做某事”。

Tracy总结这三个词可以包含以下几种感情：

1.表畏惧，害怕

I dread to think what Russell will say.

我真不敢想Russell会说什么。

I used to have a dread of Friday.

以前我对星期五常有莫名的恐惧感。

I am afraid of the tiger.

我害怕老虎。

Everybody is afraid to die.

每个人都害怕死。

dread在表达畏惧时程度较 afraid 深；

afraid常用来表达心理上对某种动物或者事情的害怕。

2.表达担忧

说实话，我一整天都在担心这个。

一想到回学校，我就忧心忡忡。

I was afraid that he would be angry.

我怕他会生气。

她担心她在当兵打仗的儿子。

Don’t worry. /No worries.

别担心，别在意。

dread 表达担忧多有恐惧的含义；

worry则更多表示关心、挂念；

afraid 更多的是在意,和care 差不多。

3. 表不情愿做某事

I'm often afraid to go out on the streets.

我常不愿意到街上去。

I am dreading going back to work after the holidays.

假期后，我一点不想上班。

afraid 表达由于心理害怕原因而不愿做某事；

dread 表示不想，而不是害怕。可以用"be not looking forward to" 代替 。

4. 表抱歉

只有afraid有这层意思，口语很常用，也是一种礼貌用语

-Is there anything to eat?

有没有吃的？

-I'm afraid not.

不好意思，没有。

Sorry, I’m afraid I can’t help you.

不好意思，恐怕我帮不了你了。

-Will it hurt?

会痛吗？

-I'm afraid so.

会哦。
