You say begin, I say commence

About self-management and time planning

I have known these words for a really time: procrastination, GTD, mindmap, the Pomodoro technique, etc., however my try-out has never lasted long enough to really become a habit, not to mention the diversity of tools and methods not making it any easier. I always have the rush to try one or two from time to time but no will power to stick to it.

What makes me to really commence managing my life

At the beginning of my year (as I was born in the year of the Horse), a series of fiasco almost drowned me: betrayal of my ex BF, complete change in my career plan, loss of almost all of my circles of friends established during master period. It pushed me to look back into and reflect upon my previous 23 year, and I ended up in a disappointing finding that I did not grown a little but only resting on my laurels after entering university.

Besides, the colleagues I met in my intern which began this February are extremely talented and diligent, setting a good model for me. Everyday my boss just keeps telling me -- ""Roland, you've got to READ, THINK and LEARN! You've got to add your own value!" And that's what he is doing every day. As a 460 scorer in Chinese Bar Examination, now Kelvin is buried himself in books and cases in preparation for LLB.

I am so tired of my customary giving-up halfway.

I am so tired  of evading whenever obstacles and hindrance occur.

I am so tired of achieving nothing at all while my peers are sweating in chasing their dreams.

I need something to commence my year, and most importantly, to control my life. And that's why I start keep a record of my working and studying hours every day, plan my life one step by another, decide to post weekly review on blog, among many other things I am going to do.

"You say begin, I say commence" is the title of the first text I learned in my undergraduate years, and I still remember the whole text and the feeling as a freshman in college: fearless, highly motivated, unregretful. It's never too late to begin, oh no, commence, right?
