Intra_Planar and Intra_DC Prediction: Inaddition to Intra_Angular prediction that targets regions with strongdirectional edges, HEVC supports two alternative prediction methods, Intra_Planarand Intra_DC, for which similar modes were specified in H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. WhileIntra_DCprediction uses an average value of reference samples for theprediction, average values of two linear predictions using four cornerreference samples are used in Intra_Planar prediction to preventdiscontinuities along the block boundaries. The Intra_Planar prediction mode issupported at all block sizes in HEVC, while H.264/MPEG-4 AVC supports planeprediction only when the luma PB size is 16×16, and its plane predictionoperates somewhat differently from the planar prediction in HEVC.
