Future Simple

将来式

There are two ways to express the future simple tense in English:

有两种方式表示将来式

Will and be going to

Will or going to?

用Will还是be going to

Many times, either will or be going to are both correct ways to talk about the future.

很多时候,will和be going to都可以正确表达将来

In this lesson, the focus is:

- Forming sentences with will

- Forming sentences with be going to

- Choosing which to use

Will

Will is a the most common way to talk about the future in English.

Will是做常见的表达将来的方式

We use the form:

subject + will + verb

例如:

I will eat dinner later.

He will exercise tomorrow.

They will ride their bicycles on Thursday.

If we want to make a negative statement with will, we just add not:

如果我们用will的否定形式我们只要加not

例如:

subject + will + not + verb

We will not eat pizza tonight

We will not play tennis tomorrow

We can make “will not” simpler by using “won’t”

我们可以把 “will not” 简写成“won’t”

例如:

We will not eat pizza tonight.

We won’t eat pizza tonight.

We will not play tennis tomorrow.

We won’t play tennis tomorrow.

To make a question about the future with will, we use:

我们把疑问句形式写成

“will + subject + verb”

例如:

Will you drink milk this evening?

Will they play golf tomorrow?

Be going to

Another way we can show the future tense is to use be going to

be going to是用来表达将来式的另一种形式

I am going to walk to the store tonight.

They are going to eat fish tomorrow.

She is going to study for her test this weekend.

To make a negative future sentence with be going to, we just add not

如果我们用be going to的否定形式我们只要加not

I am not going to walk to the store tonight.

We are not going to play baseball tomorrow.

To make questions with be going to, we use:

be going to的疑问形式

Am + I + going to + verb ?

Is + he/she/it + going to + verb ?

Are + you/they/we + going to + verb ?

Are they going to play basketball tonight?

Is he going to study tonight?

Will or going to?

Many times, either will or be going to are both correct ways to talk about the future.

很多时候,will和be going to都可以正确表达将来

Sometimes, one form is a better choice.

有时候其中一个是更好的选择

Will is used for:

Will用于

Asking for or offering help

寻求帮助

Will you help me with my homework?

I’ll make a sandwich for you.

Making promises

做保证

I promise I’ll buy you an ice-cream later.

Saying what we think will be true in the future

Scientists predict there will be more lions than tigers in the year 2030.

Be going to

We use be going to when we are talking about definite plans.

当我们决定一个未来确切的计划的时候用be going to

What are you going to do this weekend?

I’m going to go fishing with my uncle.

Will or be going to?

When we make a new decision about the future,  we use will.

当我们做一个决定的时候用will

Once we have already made that decision,

we use be going to.

Good idea! I’ll go to the supermarket.  I’m going to buy some ice-cream for us.
